OPW Kenya: Edward and Teresia

News
12 July 2018
Their dream wedding finally came to fruition.
No Title

Teresia and Edward met back in 2012 in Ghana, where Teresia was studying. One day she saw Edward walk past and she was immediately drawn to him. She asked the gateman who he was and after getting his contact details, she invited him to a girls party she was hosting with friends that weekend. As they started talking she realised that they had a lot in common - one of which was the fact that they both wanted three children.

After dating for a while, Edward decided to introduce Teresia to his family...and he introduced her as his future wife.

Teresia returned to Kenya and Edward moved to the US, but he still stayed in contact with her.

The couple finally decided to tie the knot and at the time, it was a small intimate function attended by only 15 guests. However, it was always their desire to one day have a big dream wedding in Kenya witnessed by their close friends and family.

The Preparations

According to Ghanaian customs, the man has to wear the Kente cloth which is a standard 12 yards long. Edward chose to wear a suit which comprised of a brown jacket, white shirt, black pants and a bowtie. His groomsmen looked dapper in the same colours, except for the jacket which was black. His parents wore the traditional Kente attire.

Due to logistics, only the nuclear family from Ghana could attend the wedding accompanied by the pastor who first wed them.

On the d-day, Teresia chose to have the long walk down the aisle as Edward waited patiently at the altar. 'It was magical. It was amazing - the day we were finally waiting for was here and I could not wait to see her".

There was a special moment when their daughter went to hug her father.

The exchange of vows

The couple read their solemn vows which had been prepared beforehand with Edward acknowledging that his wife is 'a true woman, full of compassion and emotion'.

It is clear to see that the couple is so much in love and their vision of having a wedding in Kenya finally became a reality.

Reception

Who knew the groom could dance like that! The entertainment and the decor were on point. We wish Mr and Mrs Owusu all the best.
