We had the Pleasure of speaking to Juma Shibe who plays the role of MJ in the series Almasi!
He shared his thoughts, insights and experience in the Television and Film industry. He still has a long journey ahead of him but so far, he is definitiely on the path to greatness! Meet Juma Shibe! Almasi's MJ!
1. After scooping the Award for Best Actor at the Coast Film Festival in 2013 Tell us more about landing the role of MJ in Almasi
Juma: Flexibility made me secure the role since it is the key to acting. I actually can take up any role. It is the flexibility that made me do well in my roles on stage plays and screenplays and with this I was able to scoop the award. This made it easy for Ashiner Pictures to pick a role that I did best for the overall mandate of delivering their package and I am glad it did hit the screens
2. How do you prepare yourself for a production or any public engagement?
Juma: The initial step is to go through the play. I read it thoroughly, understand and rehearse my role. In a public engagement, I consider the kind of people involved. It is important to chose your words wisely and also to have into consideration what you have to wear. Time is of essence in production. If I am to film the following day, I sleep early to get enough rest and wake up early to make to the venue in time so that I can relax and get ready for the activity
3. Who or what inspires you?
Juma: My family and friends have always inspired me. I receive motivational support from my fans everyday.
4. Which was the most fun role? Why?
Juma: I enjoyed taking the role since it was my first experience in filming. I found it easy and manageable despite the misinterpretation that came along with it by the public.
5. What are your Professional aspirations?
Juma: To take film production to another level and also win International awards
7. What advise do you have for young professionals in the limelight like yourself?
Juma: Discipline is the key to success. Without hard work and commitment, there is no room for success. In order to make a delicious meal, you must follow a recipe with all the ingredients. Hard work and commitment are the ingredients for success. Discipline is of essence in filming and acting. You ought to be your own supervisor in taking up roles and rehearsing for them. Meeting deadlines is also key to being a good actor/actress. You need to be reliable in filming. With these at hand, you will go places
8. If you weren’t a successful Artist/Actor what would’ve been your alternative career?
Juma: Would be in business, Crane or a forklift operator
9. What is the next step for you? Any interesting things we need to look out for?
Juma: I am working on new projects that will be bigger, better and will be unveiled soon. Personal developments are also in the channel.
